Drumming class: Children ages 9 through 13 will be introduced to the rhythms of the world as they master proper drumming techniques for hand drums, bongos, congas, djembes, and tubanos. In addition, students will learn to add some spice to the beat with other fun hand-held percussion instruments, including maracas, cowbells, and claves. Your drummer will work with others by layering individual rhythms to create music that will have audiences tapping their feet and clapping along.
Steel pan class: Your child will learn to produce the sounds from the Caribbean in a full ensemble of steel pans. Joint performances with the drumming class will create memorable concerts. Everyone will have the opportunity to show off their skills to the community as the ensembles take the stage at various venues throughout the year.
Respect towards others and the instruments are at the core of these engaging and fun groups. These classes are more affordable than private lessons and are structured to provide each child with the rehearsal time needed to be a successful member of the ensemble, eliminating the need for daily practice at home.
